New Delhi, (CNI) An internal inquiry conducted by the Army into the alleged killing of three civilians during interrogation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district in December last year has identified some procedural lapses. has happened, people familiar with the matter said on Friday.

 

The military ordered a full internal investigation into the killings after allegations that civilians died in its custody.

 

The three civilians were allegedly picked up by the army for questioning after four jawans were killed in an ambush by unidentified terrorists in Poonch on December 21.

 

The citizens, aged between 27 and 42 years, were found dead on December 22.

 

The investigation identified some procedural lapses by a few officials, the people cited above said, without elaborating.

 

When asked about the investigation, the army said that the investigation into the alleged incident is still ongoing.

 

“The Indian Army is committed to conducting a thorough and impartial inquiry to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident,” it said.

 

“All efforts are made to ensure that investigations are fair, comprehensive and conclusive.

 

Further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation and the finalization of the action.

 

The army said it was “committed to maintaining the highest standards of discipline, conduct and ethics in accordance with the law, in addition to maintaining zero tolerance for any violation of human rights”.

“Our protocols and procedures are designed to ensure that all personnel adhere to these principles, even in the most difficult operational conditions,” he said.

 

Following the killings, relatives and political leaders alleged that his death was due to “security violence” as he was among eight people picked up by the army for questioning.

 

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has also started an investigation into the deaths. (CNI)
