Alleged Forced Conversion of Non-Local at Dargah: Srinagar Police Registers FIR

Srinagar (CNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered an FIR for an incident that took place on the occasion of Juma Al-Wada. In which a non-local person allegedly converted to Islam, the police FIR as “forced conversion”.

 

The video of the transformation incident went viral on social media platforms, especially Facebook.

 

According to reliable sources, in a video shared by some people associated with news portals, a man named Sandeep, who lives in Haryana, is shown allegedly converting during Friday prayers at Hazrat Bil’s shrine.

 

“The spread of the video has created public anxiety and raised concerns about religious harmony and tolerance. The incident has sparked strong reactions beyond the borders of Jammu and Kashmir and UT, which is likely to but is fueling communalism and communal riots,” the police mentioned in the FIR.

 

“Further investigation revealed that Sandeep was allegedly mentally manipulated by the owner of the house, Inayat Muntar, a resident of Nohta, who employed Sandeep as a domestic servant at his house in Srinagar. Inayat “allegedly took Sandeep to the shrine of Hazrat Bull, where he allegedly forced him to recite the kalma during congregational prayers so that he could convert,” the police FIR further explained.

 

Meanwhile, an official told Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir.com that FIR no. 55/2024 has been registered at police station Nagin under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 188 (disobeying an order issued by a public servant), 298 (uttering words etc. with intent to hurt religious sentiments). are 153 (incitement with intent to create riot) and 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, caste, place of birth, residence, language etc., and discriminatory acts to maintain harmony) .

 

Additionally, a sub-inspector rank official has been assigned the task of completing the case file and submitting the investigation report to the Superintendent of Police for further action.

 

The Jammu and Kashmir Police has appealed to the public to remain calm as they work diligently to solve the case and ensure that justice prevails.-(CNI)
