Srinagari CNI NEWS: Twenty outstanding Principals, Lecturers, Masters and Teachers of the School Education Department, Jammu & Kashmir, were today honoured with the prestigious State Best Teacher Awards for their exceptional contribution,
dedication and excellence in the field of school education at a grand ceremony organised at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. The awards were presented by Hon’ble Education Minister Ms Sakina Masood Itoo in the presence of senior officers of the School Education Department and other dignitaries.Among the distinguished awardees was Mr. Anwar Khan, Principal, Boys Higher Secondary School Mandi, Poonch, who was
felicitated with the State Best Teacher Award in recognition of his outstanding and multifaceted contribution to educational research, teacher education, academic innovation, digital learning and environmental awareness. His recognition is being viewed as a significant honour for the teaching fraternity of District Poonch and a fitting acknowledgement of his more than two decades of dedicated service to the cause of
education.Mr. Anwar Khan has a distinguished career spanning 23 long years, during which he has served the education sector in diverse capacities including Lecturer, Teacher Educator at DIET, Research Officer at the State Institute of Education Jammu, Principal and Zonal Education Officer. In each of these assignments, he has established himself as a committed educationist with a strong orientation towards academic excellence, research, innovation and institutional development. His professional journey reflects a rare combination of classroom experience,
teacher training, educational research, academic leadership and field-level educational administration.A significant aspect of his contribution has been his association with educational research and academic development, including his work and interaction with reputed institutions such as NIEPA New Delhi, Regional Institute of Education (RIE) Ajmer and SCERT Jammu. His research-oriented approach has enabled him to contribute towards understanding emerging educational needs, strengthening teaching-learning practices and
promoting evidence-based approaches in school education. His work in educational research has also reflected his sustained effort to connect academic theory with practical classroom requirements.As a Teacher Educator at DIET, Mr. Khan played an important role in professional development and capacity building of teachers. He contributed to the preparation and development of Teachers’ Training Modules, incorporating innovative pedagogical approaches and contemporary educational requirements.
His efforts in this field have been directed towards equipping teachers with effective classroom strategies and encouraging them to continuously upgrade their professional knowledge and skills.Mr. Khan has also been an advocate of technology-enabled education and online learning. Through educational content and online teaching initiatives on YouTube, he utilised digital platforms to make learning resources available to students and teachers beyond the conventional classroom. His efforts demonstrated the potential of technology in overcoming
geographical barriers and providing learners with additional academic support, particularly in areas where access to educational resources can be challenging.His contribution to environmental awareness and preservation has been another notable dimension of his educational philosophy. Through school-based activities and awareness initiatives, he has encouraged students to appreciate the importance of protecting the environment, conserving natural resources, promoting plantation and developing responsible and sustainable habits. His approach has consistently emphasised that the purpose of education is not confined to academic
achievement but also includes developing responsible citizens who are sensitive towards nature and society.Mr. Khan is also the author of the book “Transforming Educators”, a work reflecting his professional commitment towards teacher empowerment and educational transformation. The book embodies his belief that teachers are not merely imparting knowledge but are instrumental in shaping character, inspiring young minds and building the foundations of a progressive society. His literary contribution further demonstrates his engagement with educational thought beyond his formal administrative responsibilities.
Throughout his career, whether working directly with students as a Lecturer, strengthening teachers as a Teacher Educator, contributing to educational research as a Research Officer, or providing academic and administrative leadership as Principal and Zonal Education Officer, Mr. Khan has consistently endeavoured to bring innovation, professionalism and a learner-centric approach to his responsibilities.
His selection for the State Best Teacher Award is thus a recognition of a long and multifaceted journey devoted to the advancement of education.The ceremony was attended by Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Ms Bhawani Rakwal, IAS; Director School Education Jammu, Mr Naseem Javed, JKAS; Director School Education Kashmir, Mr Nasser Wani; Chief Education Officer Poonch, Mr Javed Iqbal Gulshan, besides all other Chief Education Officers of Jammu & Kashmir and senior officers of the School Education Department.
The presence of senior officials and educationists added grandeur and significance to the occasion.The felicitation of the 20 awardees on National Teachers’ Day served as a tribute to the dedication and commitment of the teaching community across Jammu & Kashmir.
