Singapore: (CNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said that Article 370 was a temporary measure and prevented the extension of very progressive laws to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

 

Addressing members of the Indian community in Singapore, Jaishankar said the benefits of the change are now visible.

 

The Minister said that Article 370 was a temporary measure of the Indian Constitution and extending it did two things, harming us as a nation.

 

“One, it gave rise to an ethos of separatism, violence and terrorism. And it became a security problem for the entire country. Second, it prevented the very progressive laws from being extended to Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh at that time gave.

 

In August 2019, the Indian government abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution, revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and split the state into two Union Territories.
