Ishfaq gulzar cni Srinagar, (CNI NEWS): All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina has criticised the ongoing session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, saying that the House should focus more on issues directly affecting the common people rather than political confrontations and Jammu-versus-Kashmir rhetoric.Raina’s remarks came amid heated exchanges in the Assembly over government holidays, including demands for restoration of the holiday on the birth

anniversary of National Conference founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and objections to the existing holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. He said people elect legislators with the expectation that their problems would be raised in the Assembly, debated and followed by concrete efforts for their resolution.“Why are legislators engaging in political confrontation instead of bringing resolutions on issues affecting ordinary citizens?” Raina questioned.He expressed concern over what he described as increasing Jammu-versus-Kashmir rhetoric in the House, saying that

debates over Article 370 and Article 35A should not overshadow issues concerning the day-to-day lives of people.Raina urged legislators to give greater attention to unemployment, vacant posts in the health sector, shortage of doctors and paramedical staff, and vacancies in educational institutions.He claimed that thousands of posts remain vacant across various departments and questioned whether the government has a clear long-term strategy to address unemployment and staffing shortages, particularly in the health and education sectors.

The Sikh leader said every MLA should utilise the Assembly platform to highlight problems faced by people in their respective constituencies and seek practical solutions.Referring to earlier Assemblies, Raina said that, in his view, legislators had maintained greater decorum and devoted more attention to government programmes, policies and public welfare.He alleged that during the past two years, both the government and opposition had not demonstrated adequate focus on programmes aimed at addressing people’s day-to-day problems.Raina questioned the purpose of electing legislators if issues affecting ordinary citizens were not adequately debated and addressed in the Assembly.
