In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has introduced new undergraduate programs in Languages and Humanities, aimed at providing multidisciplinary education, promoting linguistic diversity, and enhancing career opportunities for students.
The newly launched programs include Kashmiri, Pahari, Gojri, Persian, English, Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Linguistics in the language domain, along with History, Sociology, Political Science, Islamic Studies, Economics, and Education in the humanities and social sciences. These courses will not only help in preserving and promoting India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage but also open new avenues for employment in teaching, research, translation, journalism, public administration, tourism, and cultural studies. The initiative is particularly significant for the Pir Panjal region, where these programs will help fulfill long-standing academic and career aspirations.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal highlighted the significance of these programs in shaping students’ future careers while contributing to regional and national development. He stated, “By introducing these courses, BGSBU is equipping students with skills that will enhance their employability in both government and private sectors. These programs are designed to meet the growing demand for professionals in language studies, education, social sciences, and interdisciplinary research.”
Prof. Iqbal further stressed the role of these programs in national progress, adding, “By offering education in regional and classical languages alongside social sciences, we are contributing to the national aspirations of linguistic preservation, social empowerment, and inclusive growth. This initiative will help nurture the next generation of scholars, educators, and policymakers who will drive meaningful change in society.”
