Kokernag, CNI: In a determined push to rejuvenate the tourism potential of Kokernag and ensure high-class facilities for visitors, Chief Executive Officer of Kokernag Development Authority (KDA), Mohd Rouf Rahman (JKAS), conducted an early morning surprise visit to Hill View Park in Bidder Kokernag. Spread over 450 kanals, the sprawling park has now been identified for immediate facelift and upgradation, including the planting of ornamental plants and flowering species to enhance its aesthetic appeal.

The CEO’s visit is being viewed as part of his larger commitment to bring tangible change in the functioning and protocol of the authority while promoting Kokernag as a prime tourist destination.

Following the inspection at Hill View Park, CEO Rahman proceeded to Dandipora Park, which covers around 80 kanals of land. He directed officials to restore and level the sunken land patches caused by last year’s heavy snowfall, rains, and flash floods. He also chaired a meeting with KDA staff and gardeners on-site, where he issued clear directives for better maintenance, hygiene, and consistent beautification efforts.

“Tourists today are looking for well-maintained, clean, and peaceful destinations. We must ensure that our parks and public spaces reflect the beauty and hospitality that Kokernag is known for,” CEO Rahman reportedly told the staff during the interaction.

Later in the day, the CEO also visited outsourced huts managed by KDA and held direct interactions with tourists and local residents, gathering feedback about their experiences, comfort, and overall satisfaction levels in Kokernag. The visit was marked by positive responses and appreciation from both locals and visitors, who commended the CEO’s hands-on approach and personal interest in on-ground developments.

Locals said the surprise inspection and immediate instructions given by the CEO show a serious intent to uplift Kokernag’s tourism ecosystem, which has long awaited consistent attention. Staff members, particularly gardeners and field workers, expressed renewed motivation following the interaction with the CEO.

The initiative is expected to pave the way for increased tourist footfall to the region, offering a refreshing natural retreat with upgraded infrastructure. As efforts gain momentum, Kokernag may soon emerge as a revitalized hub of eco-tourism in South Kashmir. (CNI)
