The Indian spacecraft blazed its way to the far side of the moon Friday in a follow-up mission to its failed effort nearly four years ago to land a rover softly on the lunar surface, the country’s space agency said.
A successful landing would make India the fourth country, after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China, to achieve the feat.
With the Chandrayaan-3 mission kicking off this week, the field of science has been abuzz with intriguing studies and discoveries.
India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, which got off to a thrilling start from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, on Friday afternoon, will attempt to soft-land a Lander on the lunar surface and deploy its six-wheeled, box-shaped Rover.
Building upon the success of its predecessors, Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2, the third lunar mission is set to push the boundaries of space discovery and innovation.
According to ISRO, the Chandrayaan-3 mission has three major objectives: demonstrate safe and soft landing on the surface of the Moon, conduct rover operations on the Moon, and conduct on-site experiments on the Lunar surface.(The Hindu)
