Poonch, CNI NEWS: Director, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), J&K, Shri Rajesh Kumar Shavan

(JKAS), today chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Conference Hall, Dak Bungalow, Poonch, to review the functioning of the FCS&CA Department and implementation of various schemes and services in the district.Assistant Director, Mills, Ms Rehana; Assistant Director, T&S, Mr Rohit; and Assistant Director, FCS&CA, Poonch, Mr Khalil A. Banday, were present along with Tehsil Supply Officers (TSOs), storekeepers and other departmental staff. Mr Banday made a detailed presentation on the department’s functioning, progress achieved under various parameters and key issues requiring attention.The Director took stock of the status of e-KYC of ration card holders and LPG subscribers, timely distribution of foodgrains and

implementation of various targeted schemes, directing officers to ensure hassle-free coverage of all eligible beneficiaries in strict adherence to prescribed norms.He also directed the TSOs to expedite verification of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) at the earliest, so as to ensure rightful targeting and eliminate ineligible entries from the scheme.Emphasising the protection of consumer rights, the Director directed that regular and effective inspections be carried out in coordination with the District Administration. These inspections would include weighment checks of domestic LPG cylinders, calibration checks at petrol pumps to verify fuel quality and quantity, and quality and price checks of essential commodities, with strict action against unfair trade practices and violations of prescribed norms.He further directed that domestic LPG cylinders be checked to prevent their use for commercial purposes, stressing strict enforcement of the prescribed regulations and close monitoring to curb such misuse.

The Director also reviewed the proposed departmental office building and Government Food Store and directed the concerned officers to identify suitable land and simultaneously initiate preparation of the DPR, so as to expedite the process and ensure timely submission of the proposals.He stressed the need for up-to-date record keeping at all levels, proper reconciliation of all dispatches and receipts, and close monitoring of departmental operations to ensure transparency, accountability and efficient service delivery.Speaking to the media on the occasion, the Director said that routine samples of

foodgrains are lifted for quality testing as part of the department’s regular quality-control mechanism. He said the exercise is aimed at ensuring that foodgrains supplied to consumers conform to the prescribed quality standards.The Director called upon the officers and field functionaries to remain responsive to public grievances and ensure that departmental benefits and services reach the intended beneficiaries in a timely, transparent and efficient manner.
