Government must remain wary of hidden agendas of Kashmir-Centric power seekers

The undercurrent of Islamist and separatist factions, including JEI, JKLF, and various Hurriyat factions, has persistently aimed to achieve their objectives through the acquisition of power in the Kashmir Valley. This strategy is not a recent development but a long-standing agenda that continues to be evident in their current attempts to engage in dialogue with the government. These groups may profess a willingness to integrate into the national mainstream, participate in elections, and lobby for the release of their members from detention—those involved in militant activities, stone-pelting, and other serious anti-national acts. However, their ultimate goal remains consistent: to gain power and subsequently pursue their ambition of severing Kashmir from India, thereby fueling unrest and perpetuating a culture of violence that undermines the integrity of the nation.

A thorough examination of the political landscape reveals that leaders such as the Abdullahs, Muftis, Bukharis, Lones, and others are similarly inclined to seize power by any means necessary. Their historical actions have seldom prioritized the welfare of the people, focusing instead on exploiting public funds and perpetuating instability in the region. Their allegiance to India has always been dubious, raising significant concerns about their true intentions. These leaders have often advocated for Pakistan, casting further doubt on their commitment to Indian sovereignty.

It is crucial for the government to be acutely aware of the duplicitous strategies employed by these Kashmir-centric parties, including JEI, Hurriyat factions, separatists, NC, PDP, PC, CPI, CPM, and others. The current central government must resist the temptation to alter the leadership in the Union Territory, ensuring that the Lieutenant Governor remains in place for a substantial period. Additionally, the reinstatement of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir should be deferred indefinitely.

Jammu and Kashmir, as a border state, faces relentless efforts from hostile neighbors to destabilize the region. These adversaries are eager to see anti-India political parties ascend to power, exploiting them to further their nefarious agendas. Therefore, it is imperative for the government to maintain a vigilant and unwavering stance on Kashmir policy, recognizing the necessity of strategic consistency.

Moreover, significant attention and resources should be directed towards the nationalist people and regions within Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing their grievances and alleviating their sufferings, particularly those of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits and others who have been in exile for the past 35 years, must be a priority. Ensuring the stability and integration of these nationalist elements will fortify the region’s alignment with broader national interests.

The current policy and strategy require a substantial shift to counter the sophisticated tactics of Kashmir’s power seekers. It is essential to prevent these groups from manipulating democratic processes and safeguard the region’s stability. By maintaining a firm and strategic approach, the government can thwart these malicious designs and promote a peaceful, integrated Kashmir within the Indian Union.
