Srinagar, (CNI): In a historic achievement, the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest aerial ropeways in Asia, will offer rides to more than one million tourists and locals during the financial year 2023-24. , which increased the revenue of the Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation 108 crores for the year.

According to news agency—Current News Of India (CNI), the authorities see this increase in tourist arrivals as a catalyst for tourism in the Gulmarg Gondola to breathe new life into the valley’s tourism sector.

The cable car has become a symbol of adventure and beauty, attracting travelers from far and wide to experience its breathtaking views and thrilling rides.

J&K Tourism witnessed an unprecedented growth which continues to surpass all previous figures,” J&K Tourism Department shared on a social media site X.

Tourism officials highlighted the important role of the Gulmarg Gondola in enhancing the tourist experience.

He said that visitors often express that their trip to Gulmarg would feel incomplete without experiencing the famous cable car ride.

Specifically, the Gulmarg Cable Car consists of two stages. One from Gulmarg Resort to Kongdori Valley and the other from Kongdori to Uproth Peak. The first stage reaches a height of 8,694 feet, while the second climbs to the highest peak of 13,058 feet. With 108 cabins and 18 towers, Gulmarg Gondola provides a safe and exhilarating experience for all visitors.

However, last year (2022-2023), the number of tourists who rode the gondola was 8.5 lakh, while in 2021-2022, 6 lakh tourists rode. The demand is 7000-8000 per day, but according to the capacity, the gondola can carry only 3400-3500 tourists per day.

The Gulmarg Gondola project dates back to 1988, and despite the challenges it faced, the first phase was completed in 1998, opening its doors to the public. Since then, it has been the cornerstone of Kashmir’s tourism industry, captivating the hearts of millions of visitors with its charm and beauty.
