Gurez valley received heavy fresh snowfall, rains lash plains in J&K

Srinagar : The Gurez Valley in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district received a fresh spell of heavy snowfall from Sunday morning, while plains in Kashmir experienced a light spell of rainfall.

Locals of Gurez valley said that 3-4 fts of fresh snow accumulated in the area from midnight to Sunday morning, with snowfall continuing.

Higher reaches of including Gurez valley of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district recorded fresh heavy snowfall while the plains of Jammu and Kashmir received rains on Saturday.

A meteorological department official told that the fresh heavy snowfall continue in the Gurez valley resulting in appreciable drop in the mercury.

He said snowfall was reported from Gurez, Dawar, Markoot besides higher reaches of Tulail areas of valley.

The rest of the valley, including Srinagar city, has been lashed by moderate to heavy rains since Friday afternoon.

The official further said that widespread moderate to heavy rain/snow is expected in Jammu and Kashmir till the afternoon of March 3 with its peak activity on March 2.

The official also urged the people of Gurez living in snow bound areas to avoid venturing into sloppy and Avalanche prone areas.

Meanwhile, earlier authorities have already closed the 84 Km Gurez-Bandipora road in anticipation of heavy snowfall in the area.(CNI) Current News of India
