Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, informed the Legislative Assembly that Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Shangus in Anantnag is fully staffed with six Medical Officers, two Dental Surgeons, and other healthcare personnel providing services.
Responding to a query from legislator Reyaz Ahmad Khan, the Minister stated that in November 2024, 365 Medical Officers were appointed under the J&K Health & Family Welfare (Gazetted) Services, with 16 of them deployed in remote healthcare centers across Anantnag to enhance medical services.
She confirmed that SDH Shangus has four sanctioned Medical Officer posts, all of which are filled, along with two additional Medical Officers under the National Health Mission (NHM). Both sanctioned Dental Surgeon positions at the hospital are also occupied.
Regarding specialist doctors, the Minister noted that although posts were created for SDH Shangus, they were later put on hold as per Government Order No. 875. She added that upgrading healthcare facilities depends on various factors, including population size, infrastructure availability, proximity to other health centers, patient load, and adherence to IPHS norms and government directives.
