Jammu, (CNI) – In a significant address at the Sankalp Choupaal, Viksit Bharat event held at Shakti Kendra Parmukh, Ward 70, Sainik Colony, Jammu South, Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Kavinder Gupta today hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s landmark decision to conduct a caste-based census as a transformative step toward empowering economically and socially backward classes. Describing the move as “historic,” Gupta emphasized that this initiative will foster inclusion, promote equitable development, and pave new pathways for the progress of marginalized communities across India.
Gupta lauded the Union Home Ministry’s announcement that the population census, the first since 2011, will be conducted in two phases—commencing on October 1, 2026, and concluding on March 1, 2027. He underscored that the inclusion of a caste-based enumeration in this decennial exercise reflects the Modi government’s unwavering commitment to social justice and inclusive governance. “This decision will lay a robust foundation for good governance, ensuring that every section of society receives the attention and resources it deserves,” Gupta remarked.
The caste-based census, a long-standing demand of various communities, is poised to provide comprehensive data that will enable targeted policy interventions for economically and socially disadvantaged groups. Gupta highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas (Together with All, Development for All, Trust of All), which prioritizes inclusive growth and equitable opportunities. “By identifying and addressing the specific needs of backward classes, this census will empower millions and ensure that no one is left behind in India’s journey toward progress,” he added.
Gupta further noted that the caste-based census will serve as a critical tool for policymakers to design welfare schemes that address systemic inequalities. The data collected will facilitate the allocation of resources, enhance access to education and employment opportunities, and strengthen social welfare programs for deprived sections. “This is a monumental step toward ensuring justice and dignity for all. It reflects the government’s resolve to create a more equitable society,” he said.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the Union Home Ministry, Gupta called the decision a “game-changer” that will redefine India’s developmental framework. He urged citizens to support this initiative, emphasizing its potential to foster unity and progress. The BJP leader also appealed to all stakeholders to actively participate in the census process to ensure its success.
