Historic Mughal-era wall Baachi Darwaza built by great mughal king Akbar caved this morning.

The Kalai, located in downtown Srinagar, reportedly collapsed near Bachi Darwaza, close to Makdoom Sahab. This incident has raised concerns about the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage.

Renowned for its architectural splendor, the centuries-old Kalai unexpectedly crumbled, leaving locals and authorities stunned. This landmark structure, a testament to the region’s rich history, has long been a focal point for residents and tourists alike.

Locals from the area informed Good Morning Kashmir that the collapse occurred amidst ongoing preservation efforts in the area, highlighting the challenges of maintaining historical structures.

Local residents, having witnessed the Kalai’s gradual deterioration, urged GMK for prompt action to safeguard historical structures in the region, citing growing concerns about the impact of weathering and neglect on Srinagar’s architectural gems.

Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage and developing restoration strategies for the site.

The Deputy Director of Archaeology said, “we have visited the site previously. After discussions with the government, a budget of Rs. 5 crore has been allocated for the restoration. (CNI) Current News of India
