Reasi, CNI NEWS: Government Degree College (GDC) Reasi organised an Induction Programme for first-semester students on August 18, 2026, aimed at familiarising newly admitted students with academic life and sensitising them to issues related to mental well-being, responsible decision-making and healthy adjustment to college environment.

The programme was held under the guidance of Principal Prof. Mamta Gupta and was jointly organised by NCORD, NCC, NSS and the Student Well-Being and Suicide Prevention Committee of the college.

The event focused on key concerns affecting young adults, including student mental health, drug addiction, behavioural addictions and suicide prevention. Speakers emphasised the importance of early identification of psychological distress, adoption of healthy coping strategies, timely help-seeking behaviour and building strong support systems with peers, teachers and family members.

Prof. Pawan Gupta attended the programme as Guest of Honour and highlighted the importance of discipline, positive decision-making and constructive engagement in academic life.

Dr. Omar Habib addressed the students on mental well-being and suicide prevention, urging them to openly communicate their concerns and seek support instead of suffering in silence.

Prof. Baldev Singh spoke on the harmful effects of drug addiction, stressing its impact on health, academics, family life and society, and called for collective efforts to build a drug-free campus.

Mr. Rakesh Kumar discussed behavioural or process addictions, including excessive use of digital media and gaming, and encouraged students to maintain balanced and healthy lifestyle habits.

The programme also provided an interactive platform for students to engage with experts and understand challenges that may affect their academic and personal growth. Speakers encouraged students to seek help without hesitation and contribute to a supportive and inclusive campus environment.

The proceedings were hosted by Prof. Irfan Arif, who ensured the smooth conduct of the event.

The programme concluded with a call for students to adopt responsible behaviour, stay connected with mentors and peers, and actively participate in initiatives promoting mental well-being, academic excellence and a drug-free society. CNI NEWS
