The Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC), led by its President, Shri Kundan Kashmiri, warmly welcomes the recent assurances made by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address in Jammu, where he promised relief enhancement for the displaced Kashmiri Pandit community and expressed his commitment to their rehabilitation as per their wishes. However, while we appreciate the Prime Minister’s assurances, but at the same time harbors serious apprehensions regarding why these grave issues have not been addressed earlier.
Kundan Kashmiri, President KPC questioned why these long-pending concerns were not resolved through Cabinet decisions or administrative processes much sooner. By including these issues in election manifestos, it suggests that their fulfillment may be further delayed, with bureaucratic hurdles stretching the timeline for resolution for another five years or more.
He said the absence of a clear and transparent roadmap for the resettlement of displaced Kashmiri Pandits remains a significant concern. The community seeks to be resettled in a secure, unified settlement where we can live together, preserving our identity, religion, customs, and traditions. As the displaced Kashmiri Pandits refuse to return to the Valley at the mercy of those responsible for our genocide, ethnic cleansing, and forced exodus. We have faced enough humiliation, hatred, and suffering, and we will not return to an environment where we live in fear and insecurity.
Our concerns are also fueled by the government’s poor track record in fulfilling rehabilitation promises. Despite commitments made over the past 14 years, the construction of 6,000 quarters for PM package employees remains incomplete, with many still living in rented accommodations under insecure conditions. If such a promise has not been fulfilled in over a decade, how can we trust the timely resettlement of 4 to 5 lakh displaced Kashmiri Pandits?
He further said that KP community, s rehabilitation is not just about being physically relocated to the Valley; it is about compensating the immense economic, social, and emotional losses our community has suffered over the past three decades. The government must provide concrete economic packages, job opportunities in central departments for displaced Kashmiri youth, and immediate support for the poorest among us. Further, the return of our properties, lands, and orchards, taken through distress sales or encroachments, must be ensured without delay.
He further said that the Kashmiri Pandit community is not merely a vote bank. We are a loyal, nationalistic, and responsible community that has always contributed to the unity and integrity of India. We demand that political parties, especially the ruling government, treat us with respect and dignity, instead of using us as a political tool for votes.
KPC urge the government to demonstrate its sincerity and strong will by addressing the rehabilitation, welfare, and dignity of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits without further political or bureaucratic delays. We remain hopeful that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these issues will be resolved once and for all, bringing justice and relief to a community that has suffered for far too long.
