Kupwara : District Kupwara in northern region of Kashmir has become the first district to deploy GPS anklets on bailed out narcotics accused.
This innovative step aims to enhance surveillance over the movement of the accused, ensuring better monitoring and safety for the community.
An official told that the decision to deploy the GPS anklets was made by the Hon’ble ASJ Court Kupwara while granting bail in FIR 283/2022. The court recognized the importance of closely monitoring the activities of the accused, Abdul Majid Bhat, and Aabid Ali Bhat.
In response, the Kupwara Police team, led by ASP GM Bhat, DySP Ameen Bhat, and SHO Kupwara Insp Ishaq, took swift action by deploying the GPS anklets. This proactive approach demonstrates the commitment of the district authorities to ensure the safety and security of the community.
The official said that the implementation of GPS anklets will not only deter the accused from engaging in illicit activities but will also provide valuable information about their whereabouts.
He said this technological advancement is a significant step forward in effectively combating the drug trade and safeguarding the well-being of the residents.(CNI)
