Minor clash with police in Aligarh over Free Palestine protest during Eid prayers

Aligarh UP: (CNI): A heated exchange broke out between the police and some people attending Eid prayers at an Eid gah here on Thursday who held up a banner with the slogan “Free Palestine”.

He said that the police personnel posted there objected to the banner, which led to a minor scuffle with the protesters, but the matter was soon averted.

“Three or four youths had put up a banner with ‘Free Palestine’ slogans and were appealing to collect donations for their campaign,” Circle Officer (City) Abhay Pandey said in an official statement.

Pandey said that the police has obtained the CCTV footage of the incident.

He said that the Delhi Gate Police is investigating the matter and appropriate action will be taken based on the evidence.

District officials said that Eid was celebrated peacefully in the city. Congregational prayers were offered amid strict precautions to maintain law and order in the Shahjamal Aligarh Eidgah premises. (CNI)
