Municipal Elections Scheduled In September In JK; Preparations Begun

The administration has started preparations for the conduct of Municipal elections in 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Current News Of India (CNI), the concerned authorities have started preparations for municipal elections, which are to be conducted in September 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir.
  
In a letter to State Information Officer, as per CNI, Office Of The Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir has written that “In connection with conduct of Municipal Elections 2023, I am directed to request you that NIC software used for Municipal Election 2018 for randomization of EVMs and deployment of Polling Staff needs to be updated and provide the same to all the Deputy Commissioners of J&K for its use in Municipal Elections which are to be conducted in September 2023.”

“A format for collection of employees data according to the requirement of software may also be provided to the Deputy Commissioners at the earliest under intimation to this office so that data is collected well in time.Matter may please be attended on priority,” the letter further reads.

It’s pertinent to mention here that the Jammu and Kashmir is without an elected legislative assembly for more than four years. The assembly was dissolved by the governor in 2018.

Notably, in August 2019, the special status, Article 370, of Jammu and Kashmir was abrogated and the state was bifurcated into two Union Territories.

The hearing of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 has also started in the Supreme Court. The five judge bench headed by Chief Justice Of India is hearing the petitions.(CNI)
