Says, I am thankful to Amit Shah for acknowledging our manifesto
Ganderbal, CNI: Vice President of the National Conference Omar Abdullah has come out in support of the possible entry of Jamaat-i- Islami, JeI, into the fray for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, calling this a good omen for the health of democracy in the region.
As per news agency Current News of India (CNI), he also welcomed the attention that Home Minister Amit Shah had given to the National Conference manifesto and termed it a big acknowledgment.
Omar Abdullah cited these examples during a press conference at Ganderbal, responded to reports that indicated JeI is preparing to take part in the elections, all this despite a continuing ban on the organization.
“Although the government has not lifted the ban on JeI, their decision to field candidates as independents is a welcome move,” Abdullah said. He further went on to say, every group should be given a chance to place their platform before the voters. Referring to democracy, Omar asked the people of Jammu and Kashmir to judge all the manifestos and promises and make a comparison. He went on to say the participation of JeI, even if in some limited capacity, is welcomed since it gives more options to the votaries.
In reply to a query whether the alliance between the NC and the Congress was stable and that the alliances would be cemented further, he said all such things were party matters and would be dealt with aptly within the party as well. “I am thankful to Amit Shah for acknowledging our manifesto. It made me read it again to check if we have left out any important issue. I am feeling elated that national leaders are talking about the vision, drafted meticulously by us, for Jammu and Kashmir,” Omar said further. CNI
