Srinagar, 15 Sep (CNI): The army operation against the hiding militants in the ongoing encounter at Gadool forest area of Kokernag hamlet in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has entered its 3rd day, with one more army soldier succumbed to his injuries, taking the toll to 04.
An official told News-agency Current News of India that one more army soldier lost his life, taking the total number of casualties from the security forces to 4 in the ongoing encounter in Kokernag forests of Anantnag district.
As per the news agency-Current News of India, Police claimed to have “encircled” two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists including local militant, Uzair Khan, in the higher reaches of Anantnag district of south Kashmir and the search operation within the cordoned-off area has commenced on the third day on Friday.
The operation was halted for night and the cordon layers were tightened to prevent the escaping of militants. All new-generation weapons and devices are being used and drones, including herons, were pressed into the search.
An intermittent exchange of fire between forces and the hiding militants continued throughout yesterday, and the operation was paused due to darkness, it resumed today with the first light of the morning, officials said.
On Wednesday, the first day of the encounter, Colonel Manpreet Singh, who was the commanding officer of 19 RR, Major Aashish Dhonchak Salvinder Kumar and DySP Humayun Bhat, the son of former DIG Kashmir Ghulam Hassan Bhat were killed during initial exchange of fire.(CNI)
