Phase-I of J&K Assembly Elections Records Over 59% Voter Turnout

Srinagar,CNI: A voter turnout of 59.26% was recorded in the first phase of the J&K Assembly Elections 2024 on Wednesday, setting a perfect start for the much-awaited democratic exercise.  

 

As per the news agency Current News of India (CNI), preliminary voting data collated by the Election Commission stated that Jammu division’s Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban recorded approximate votes of 69.33%, 77.23% and 69.56%, respectively till 6 PM.

 

 

While in the Kashmir division, Anantnag recorded 54.17%, Kulgam 62.46%, Pulwama 46.66% and Shopian 53.64%.

Voting for phase-I of J&K Assembly Elections 2024 took place after a prolonged gap and for the first time after the abrogation of Article 370 on the 5th of August 2019.

 

 

Over 23.27 lakh voters across 24 Assembly Constituencies of seven districts were eligible to cast their votes in the first phase of elections. The Election Commission of India (ECI) had established 3276 polling stations with 100% webcasting.

 

 

In the first phase of elections, there were 219 candidates in the fray, vying to secure their respective seats for which they had campaigned exhaustively.

 

 

The polling started at 7 AM and enthusiastic voters were seen making a beeline to the polling booths, with elderly, men and women thronging to polling stations in huge numbers.

 

 

To prevent any mishap, tight security measures were put in place in all 24 Assembly Constituencies, where polling concluded peacefully. CNI
