PM Modi emphasises to empower farmers with digital and innovative technologies to ensure world food and nutritional security

New Delhi, 17 June (CNI) :Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasised empowering farmers with digital and innovative technologies for ensuring world food and nutritional security.

He addressed the G20 delegates at the Agriculture Ministers Meeting being held in Hyderabad through a video link. Sharing the country’s experience, the Prime Minister said India is following a policy, back to basics and marching to the future promoting technology and animal farming.

He said farmers across India are not using synthetic fertilisers and they are following soil protection practices, promoting organic fertilizer and pro-actively using technology. He said farmers in India are using solar power for farming and optimising resources.

Referring the observation of the International Year of Millets, the Prime Minister said these superfoods are normally healthy to consume and India is developing an institute of millets in the center of excellence and research and technology.

He stressed on the need for adopting better soil health and other practices. The Prime minister has also urged the delegates to deliberate a collective approach to global food security that is sustainable and inclusive. He also asked them to find ways to strengthen global fertiliser supply chain and greater soil crop health and yield.

The second-day deliberation of the G20 Agriculture Ministers meeting will further discuss the inputs of the working group. The meeting will continue tomorrow also. About 200 delegates from member and invitee countries and international organisations of agriculture research. (CNI)
