In a landmark move under the BNS (New Criminal Laws), Jammu Police’s maiden initiative in Police Station Akhnoor has led to the conviction of individual Varinder Singh S/o Bharat Singh R/o Karangi Akhnoor, for public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

The Honble Court of JMIC Akhnoor delivered the verdict today, marking a progressive step towards reformative justice.

The incident took place on January 31, 2025, within the jurisdiction of the Akhnoor Police Station, where the accused was found intoxicated and creating a public disturbance. He was promptly arrested, subjected to a medical examination, and

presented before the JMIC Akhnoor.Rather than imposing traditional imprisonment, the court opted for community service as a corrective measure.

Varinder singh has been directed to perform community service at the old aged home akhnoor everyday for one hour from 04.02.2025 to 13.02.2025.

This provision under the new criminal laws emphasizes rehabilitation and community engagement for minor offenses, promoting reform over punishment.

The effort by Jammu Police demonstrates a shift toward a more constructive approach in addressing public misdemeanors, setting a precedent for similar cases in the future.
