SRINAGAR:(CNI) The Faculty of Forestry at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-Kashmir) celebrated World Forest Day by launching a massive plantation drive on the university campus.
The drive, led by Prof. Nazir A. Ganaie, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, saw the planting of various tree species, including wild fruits and conifer species.
The university also inaugurated a QR-based tree information system, a first-of-its-kind initiative that provides easy access to information on different tree species.
A silvi-pastoral model under natural farming was also launched, aiming to promote entrepreneurship development and demonstration units for regional farming communities.
Prof. Ganaie emphasized the importance of plantation drives in safeguarding local and regional climatic issues. Prof. H. R. Naik, Director Research, stressed the need for involving more stakeholders in plantation programs.
The event was attended by various scientists, professors, and students, who all participated in the plantation drive.(CNI)
