Srinagar, April 16 (CNI): Amidst tears and sobs, thousands of people offered the funeral prayers of five persons who drowned when a boat capsized in Gandabal area of Srinagar on Tuesday morning.
In the funeral prayer, five dead people including a woman, her two sons and two other local people were offered joint funeral prayers.
According to News Agency – Current News of India (CNI), the funeral prayer was performed at a ground in the area, which was attended by thousands of teary-eyed people.
After the incident, chaos erupted in the entire Bitwara area. The local people alleged that the incident took place due to the absence of a bridge in the locality.
“We were promised higher and higher but unfortunately no one bothered to ensure a bridge in the neighborhood. Today’s tragedy is because there is no bridge,” the locals said. told
Meanwhile, several senior officials of the civil administration as well as the Jammu and Kashmir Police visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
The rescue operation is still ongoing as several persons – who were on board the boat at the time of the incident – are reportedly missing. (CNI)
