The stoic silence of Prime Minister Modi concerning the plight of Kashmiri Pandits has left the Kashmiri Pandit community, profoundly dismayed and deeply disappointed. Despite addressing various issues in Jammu & Kashmir, such as youth development and regional progress, the Prime Minister’s silence on the critical issue of Kashmiri Pandit rehabilitation remains glaring.
The anguish is palpable among over 70,000 displaced families who have endured decades of exile, longing for a consolidated settlement at one place, yet finding themselves sidelined from day one. The lack of audience granted to Kashmiri Pandit delegations seeking to voice their concerns directly to the Prime Minister exacerbates a sense of abandonment within the exiled community. Their aspirations for rehabilitation, despite occasional claims of advocating for indigenous status, remain largely unaddressed by both political leaders and the government in power.
The President Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) Kundan Kashmiri and its other leaders including Dr.HL Saraf, MK Raina,Tej Pandita, Susheel Ji Bhat, R.L Raina, Suraj Wali , S.L Zuthsi and others raises poignant questions about the intentions and commitments of the Modi government and Jammu & Kashmir leadership towards resolving their long-standing grievances.
They demand transparency and actionable steps on critical issues such as consolidated rehabilitation in Kashmir, granting of IDP status, resolution of distress sales issues, and healthcare support for elderly and ailing displaced individuals. Enhancement of relief, Amnesty and Bifurcation of cards of Delhi– NCR displaced Kashmiri Pandits ( Migrants) grant of indegenious status to KP community and other issues. They said the absence of a comprehensive and compassionate approach towards these issues underscores a systemic failure that requires urgent attention.
In their plea, the KPC further emphasizes the need for Prime Minister Modi and his administration to articulate a definitive plan demonstrating genuine commitment to resolving the genuine demands and problems faced by Kashmiri Pandits. They call for clarity and decisive action, stressing that mere rhetoric without substantive measures only deepens disillusionment and alienation among their community.CNI
