Supreme Court penalises Ladakh Admin, allows NC to use symbol of plough in Ladakh polls

Srinagar, 06 Sep (CNI) : Supreme Court rejects Union Territory of Ladakh administration plea challenging Jammu and Kashmir High Court order relating to the allotment of the party symbol, plough, for the upcoming Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) election.

As per the monitoring desk of Current News of India The top court today set aside the election for Hill Council Kargil scheduled on September 10 and directed UT’s administration to issue a fresh notification for the electoral exercise within seven days.

Holding that National Conference is entitled to the symbol of “plough”, the Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside election for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil and directed administration to issue fresh notification for the polls within seven days.

The SC held that National Conference is entitled to the symbol of “plough” for the election. It also imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh on Ladakh administration for filing the plea. (CNI)
