Baramulla, January 22, 2025: A Traffic Awareness Programme and rally were organized today by SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir as part of the National Road Safety Month 2025. The event, held in Baramulla Town and Pattan, saw active participation from over 120 individuals, including religious leaders, civil society members, senior citizens, and drivers. The DySP Traffic Baramulla/Kupwara also joined hands to make the event impactful.

The rally emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety rules and cooperating with traffic police to ensure safer roads. Participants were reminded to carry their driving licenses and other necessary documents while driving. The rally also addressed critical issues such as over-speeding, dangerous driving, overtaking, overloading, and the menace of allowing minors to drive vehicles.

One of the focal points of the program was promoting the use of safety gear, particularly helmets. The importance of helmets in preventing head injuries during accidents was stressed. Bikers and pillion riders were urged to always wear helmets and avoid dangerous stunts and reckless riding, which pose risks not only to themselves but also to others on the road.

Traffic police officials appealed to the public for cooperation in improving traffic management and ensuring road safety, especially during ongoing construction work on the National Highway. Pedestrians were advised to use designated footpaths and zebra crossings to minimize accidents while crossing roads.

During the event, all Challaning Officers were instructed to take stringent measures against traffic violators, with a particular focus on minors driving vehicles. Strict action, as per the Motor Vehicles Act, was recommended against parents and individuals who provide vehicles to minors.

Another key concern raised was the use of mobile phones while driving and the growing trend of stunt biking on public roads. These violations, which endanger human lives, were highlighted as areas requiring urgent attention and action.

The rally ended with a collective pledge to follow traffic rules and work together towards reducing road accidents, ultimately saving precious human lives.
