’35 cft of illicit forest timber seized’
Baramulla Police on Wednesday said they apprehended two timber smugglers involved in the cutting down of illicit forest timber at Mayan forest area of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In a Press release issued here to News-agency Current News of India Baramulla Police said under the supervision of Sh. Shokat Ali-JKPS, SDPO Uri assisted by Inspr Irfan Ahmad, SHO PS Bijhama arrested timber smuggler namely Gh Hassan Sheikh S/O Juma Sheikh & Khursheed Ahmad Mir S/O Mohd Ashraf both residents of Mayan Bijhama who are being involved in cutting down illicit forest timber and were selling at higher rates. 35 Illicit wooden planks forest timber was recovered from their possession in Mayan Forests.
Case under sections of Indian Forest Act registered in Police Station Bijhama and investigation set in motion.
“Police are determined to bring the culprits to justice and curb the rampant smuggling of timber that threatens the region’s rich biodiversity,” the official said.
The police have urged the citizens to report any suspicious activities related to illegal logging and forest exploitation to ensure the sustainable conservation of our forests and wildlife.(CNI)
