I submit your goodself with a deep sense of urgency and grave concern on behalf of the Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) and the Displaced Kashmiri Pandit PM package employees, regarding the appalling condition of the newly constructed accommodation blocks for PM package employees in Baramulla, Kashmir. The situation that has emerged after a minor earthquake yesterday, has shocked us to the core.
Sir, the 20 blocks of flats, officially allotted to PM package employees in September 2023 and occupied rexently in March 2024, have already begun to show severe structural damage, particularly in 11 blocks where ground floors are riddled with alarming cracks. The fact that these buildings, less than a year old, have suffered such significant damage from a minor tremor raises serious concerns about the construction quality and the materials used. This situation is nothing short of a ticking time bomb, with the lives of innocent employees and their families hanging in the balance.
Sir, the current state of these buildings is a proof to the gross negligence in their construction. The residents, including families with children and elderly members, now live in constant fear for their lives. The shoddy construction is evident not just in the structural cracks but also in the substandard quality of windows, washrooms, and other essential fixtures. Moreover, the surrounding environment, plagued by poor drainage and waterlogging, has made their living conditions unbearable.
Sir, this is a clear breach of trust and a betrayal of the government’s promise to provide secure and dignified living conditions to these employees who have already sacrificed so much. We demand an immediate, high-level investigation into this matter. Those responsible for this deplorable state of affairs must be held accountable, and urgent remedial measures must be undertaken to prevent a potential tragedy.
Sir, the Kashmiri Pandit Conference, under my leadership, insists that this investigation should be thorough, involving technical experts who can assess the construction quality and the materials used. The findings must be made public, and corrective action must be taken without delay to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
Sir, the safety, dignity, and peace of mind of these employees cannot be compromised. The Kashmiri Pandit community, which has faced relentless challenges over the years, cannot endure yet another betrayal. We urge you to act swiftly and decisively to rectify this situation.
Sir, we trust that your goodself will give this matter serious attention and take the necessary steps to protect the lives of these families and restore their faith in the system.
Yours sincerely,
