Srinagar – The once serene streets of Srinagar City have now become a battleground for its residents, as the unchecked proliferation of stray dogs continues unabated. Despite repeated appeals and concerns raised by the populace, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation’s (SMC) designated department for handling this issue remains conspicuously inert.

Prominent socio-political activist and senior trade union leader, Mohammad Altaf Dar, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating situation. “The population of stray dogs has increased manifold across Srinagar City, regardless of the socioeconomic status of the locality. One can see these animals roaming the streets in large numbers, forcing people to live with the constant fear of getting bitten,” remarked Dar.

The lack of effective measures by the SMC to address this escalating problem has left citizens feeling vulnerable and unprotected. Despite assurances of action, the situation on the ground remains dire, with incidents of dog bites on the rise.

Dar urges the authorities to prioritize the safety and well-being of the residents by implementing immediate and comprehensive measures to tackle the issue of stray dogs. “It is imperative for the SMC to take proactive steps to curb the menace of stray dogs and ensure the safety of the citizens,” emphasized Dar.

As the voices of concern grow louder within the community, there is a pressing need for swift and decisive action from the SMC to alleviate the plight of Srinagar residents. CNI
