Srinagar, CNI: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulama (MMU) on Friday spearheaded a region-wide protest against the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, calling for its immediate withdrawal. The resolution rejecting the law was read out in mosques, shrines, khanqahs, and Imambaras across Kashmir, Jammu, Chenab, Leh, and Kargil, drawing overwhelming public support.

The MMU criticized the Act for undermining Islamic principles by allowing non-Muslims in Waqf boards and transferring key powers to government officials, which it said threatens the religious and charitable character of Waqf institutions. It also condemned the repeal of legal provisions that protected longstanding religious sites.

Religious leaders expressed deep concern over the continued house detention of MMU head Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was again barred from delivering the Friday sermon at Jama Masjid Srinagar. The MMU termed the government’s actions undemocratic and an affront to Muslim sentiments.

Pledging full support to the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, the MMU urged the community to remain united and engaged in lawful efforts to protect their religious institutions. (CNI)
