New Delhi: (CNI) National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday slammed the BJP, accusing it of violating the constitution, as two former ministers of Jammu and Kashmir. A ‘Loktantar Bachao’ (Save Democracy) rally was held at the Ramlila Maidan here, where Abdullah also asserted that he would remain part of the Indian bloc ’till our last breath’.
“What is our purpose?” Our aim is only to save the constitution. It is an attack on the constitution. Even the Chief Justice of India is receiving threats.
This is our condition. People are being forced to fight among themselves. You must vote against it. You have to raise your voice. We will not leave unity till our last breath,” he told the audience. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mufti said that the manner in which the opposition leaders are being jailed is a “call to Kaleog”.
Today, the country is going through a difficult period. The situation is such that people are being put in jails unnecessarily. No due process, no lawyer. This is called “Kaliog Ka Amrit Kaal” where people are put in jail.
“I am not talking about Umar Khalid who has been in jail for the last two years or Siddiq Kapan (a journalist who was arrested in 2020 and later released). I am talking about your representatives whom you elect as MLAs, Chief Ministers, Lok Sabha members.
They are accused of corruption, and put behind bars. We have seen this in Jammu and Kashmir in the last five years,” he said.
Those who flaunt the law and constitution are not patriots but enemies of the country. Jammu and Kashmir is a laboratory. Things are first tested there and then implemented elsewhere,” he claimed.
He said that Kejriwal and Soren have been arrested without any reason.
What is the fault of Kejriwal ji and Hemant Soren ji? If Kejriwal joins the BJP, the media, which is calling him a corrupt Kejriwal, will say that there is no other ‘Qatar honest’ like him. What was his fault? That he built good schools where children of the poor can study and from where they can become engineers, doctors. They gave free water, free electricity and built good hospitals,” asserted Mufti. He said that BJP has no problem with nepotism but it only has problem with one family i.e. Nehru-Gandhi family.
“They have a problem with family (parivar) but not nepotism (parivar vada). If they had a nepotism problem, they would not have included Jyotraditya Scindia and Milind Deora in the party. Rajnath Singh’s son would not enter politics. If Aditya Thackeray joins BJP today, he will not have the problem of nepotism. “They only have a family problem this family built this country, sacrificed, went to jail – the Nehru-Gandhi family. If there were more such families, Malik would have reached much further than Chandrayan,” he asserted. He alleged that the youth were not given “two crore jobs” as promised by the Prime Minister, but they were given “sticks” and shouted slogans.
“They shouted slogans – sometimes on country, sometimes on religion and said ‘beat, beat on the basis of food, appearance and dress.’ They criminalized the youth. They made them rioters and said that you will not be sent to jail. But don’t ask them about jobs,” he charged.
Mufti said that allegations of corruption were leveled at opposition leaders, but in reality, the corruption committed by the BJP through electoral bonds was “unprecedented”.
“Such corruption has never happened in our country in the last 75 years. This is the most corrupt government. Today, we have gathered here not to save Kejriwal but to save the Constitution – the Constitution that gave you the right to vote, the vote by which you choose your government. If you don’t wake up today, your vote won’t count,” he said. The leader urged people to tell everyone that Kejriwal and Soren are in jail “because they want to save the Constitution and the right to vote”.
This is happening for the first time that opposition leaders are being arrested and rigged before the election. India Block does not have Facebook, YouTube, Newspapers or TV. Soren was arrested by the ED on January 31 for forging land documents, while Kejriwal was detained by the agency on March 21 in a money laundering case linked to the now defunct Delhi Excise Policy.
The Delhi Chief Minister is in ED custody till April 1. CNI
