Sep, 19, 2023 CNI News: Elon Musk will shortly start charging all X users a “small monthly fee,” making the social media platform no longer free.
In an attempt to address the issue of bots on the platform, the owner of X talked about the possibility that the social network may no longer be a free site during a live-streamed conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Musk claimed late on Monday that it was the only method he could think of for dealing with massive armies of bots.
“Because a bot costs a fraction of a penny — call it a tenth of a penny — but even if it has to pay a few dollars or something, the effective cost of bots is very high,” Musk addedThe idea of charging all users of X is not an unusual one; Musk initially discussed it last year.
The company presently charges its X Premium members $8 per month for the privilege of editing posts, seeing fewer advertisements, writing lengthier messages, and receiving higher rankings in searches and conversations.
Musk revealed during the conversation that X now has 550 million monthly users, producing 100–200 million posts daily.
The number of current paying subscribers was not made public by Musk.
Twitter announced 229 million mDAUs (monetizable daily active users) on its most recent quarterly financial report in Q1 2022.
