Leh, (CNI) Two foreign tourists stranded on a treacherous mountain were successfully rescued in the Khalsi subdivision of the Union Territory of Ladakh on Wednesday, police said.

The women trekkers, Sullivan Deirdre from Ireland and van der Weijden from the Netherlands, found themselves in trouble at about 10,300 feet due to slippage and called for their evacuation, said station house officer Nisar Ali of Khalsi police station said.

Ali, who led the rescue mission, said that they received a distress call around 10:30 in the morning and immediately proceeded to Mount Nabatkala.

After covering a distance of 30 kilometers in a vehicle, the rescue team traversed the dangerous route between Ang and Hems-Shukpatchan for about two hours before reaching the stranded tourists, who were then rescued safely, the officer told reporters. He was brought to Khalsi police station.
